  2. This video was interesting. Technology is everywhere, and the students in our classes want to use it and know how to use it. They are use to using technology in all aspects of their life, so why should school be any different? I think technology can be a great tool in aiding student learning by creating more student engagement. Therefore, the video, I think, is correct. I don’t think it is really biased in any way. It was just truthful, technology is a part of life and belongs in the classroom.

  3. I agree with my friend Jessica in saying that technology is everywhere in our students' lives be it cell phones, computers, cars, or working with it at their jobs. I think it is imperative to teach them not only how to use technology but also how to ETHICALLY use it. If the students' are not learning how to use it from their teachers they will find out on their own. Also I believe that in teaching them how to use it ethically they need to have access to the "bad" stuff as well so that the teachers can show them that it is out there and what to do when they come across it.

I think the video does a great job at showing how technology has been growing throughout history and it is important for our students to keep up with it if we want them to be productive members in society. I am all for a technology push in education across the board. Furthermore, the students will want to come to class if they know that they are going to have fun and get to play around with technology all class period. In this situation it is a win win for everybody.

  4. As I was watching the video I could picture in my mind a meeting of a school board to decide how to allocate funds. I feel like this video would have been effective in gaining their monetary support. It caught the attention of all age groups as it progressed through technology's history. It caused me to reflect on just how much technology has changed, and how it will continue to change. I am sold that students need to understand technology, know how to use it, and know how to use it appropriately in order to be successful in the real world.

  6. I am a HUGE proponent of technology in school. It is so important to stay on the cutting edge of advancements in order to find creative ways to integrate this technology into our teaching. There are so many things I want to do in my classroom someday that use technology, including the iPad and its applications, iMovie, Animoto, YouTube, Twitter, and so many more. Using things like this that kids are already using in their daily lives shows them that everything they use can be a tool for not just entertainment, but learning. Suddenly, school becomes more realistic and relatable to life. They are learning skills they will actually use when they go home. Yes, it is important to TEACH about history and the past, but we shouldn't be living it. Technology is the future and it makes teachers and learning better. Coach Mel Tjeerdsma once said, "If you're not getting better, you're getting worse." I don't plan on getting worse as a teacher, so I'll need to get better. Technology will help me do that.

  7. This video is a great first step--it is causing conversation. I see the major contribution of this video (and its message) to be one of complete necessity--we have to use the tools students want and need to use. I agree with Vanessa, I don't plan on being a worse teacher--I plan to use any tools necessary to reach my students. Technology is a fantastic way to help students understand "why should I care about _______."

  9. I agree that technology is important for our future generations and has/will have great impact (both negative or positive) on economy and even human survival and wellbeing on this planet (or universe) in the future. I believe the use of technology during lesson plans and lesson delivery in my content area (biology) should not be contrived. I would use it when necessary, relevant, appropriate and beneficial. The basic goal is to get the concepts across in a way that engages and interests students, and if today's technologically savvy children are more engaged with a particular tool, then I will definitely use is.
I didn't think the video was well thought, well researched or well put together. For example images of different appliances or technological devices were displayed without showing any link to education with the help of data or research.

  10. Moore's Law states: "The number of transistors that can be placed inexpensively on an integrated circuit doubles approximately every two years." For those who are technologically illiterate this means that the capacity for what computers and technologically can achieve doubles about every two years. This alone is why I believe that technology should be implemented in schools due to its integration in society and it's integration in the professional world. Schools are now in a position where technology should not only be implemented but the should also be directly taught (i.e. computers, word processing, professional tools). Students will be expected to have these things when they entered the job force and its an educational imperative to teach these technologies.
On the other hand, students are now more immersed in technological gadgets and tools than any other generation. As a tool, technology use in the classroom would be extremely effective to increase engagement in the classroom and improve student achievement.

  12. After watching this video, I felt like I just travelled through time. I loved the fact that it started out with early inventions to help our society grow and make things easier and better for us. I think this video hit it right on the spot. We need to, as educators, show students that there are useful tools out there to make our lives easier. Yes I think that they should learn the “hard” way first but also let them utilize the tools that we have literally at our fingertips. The world is going to keep changing and inventing new technologies that other schools around the world are going to take advantage of and the U.S. is not, leaving us behind and outdated. The education of America needs to accept technology because it is the real world now, not just the future.

  13. Technology has changed the world and will continue to. It is only natural that we change with it. This video is eyecatching and accurate. Technology tools are used everywhere in real life and we need to model that for our students for life after highschool. I want to motivate students. Technology will help me find new ways of teaching and relating topics to the real world. It will give students a reason to learn the content I teach. Tech tools can help me do that.

  15. The presentation brought up good points regarding the need for technology to be integrated into classrooms. It is true that if teachers do not become knowledgeable with different technological tools the students will not have the advantage of using up-to-date devices. Most students are already using many different technologies and are proficient with them.
Students are excited to use the same devices as their friends and can take advantage of the many different ways of obtaining information to complete assignments and gain knowledge. Many students seem to be more motivated than they were before if they are allowed to use the newest gadgets. Some students benefit from the hands on experience and may even feel as though they are more capable of doing more than before in class.
